MUSIGA and GHAMRO should allocate funds to aged musicians every month, says Naa Amanua

Veteran traditional musician, Naa Amanua, of Wulomei fame is calling upon the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) and the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) to allocate some funds for disbursement every month to aged musicians.

The revered singer who had earlier asked the two entities to treat aged musicians well in an interview with Graphic Showbiz said it was right for them to be paid what was due them.

“We are not the ones to chase MUSIGA and GHAMRO for remuneration for the works we have done over the years. It is just right that they pay us what is due us.

“We came to meet other musicians who were already doing music and if we are not treated well, then what are we telling the young ones after us? The young ones should be motivated by us at this time of our lives and I am sad to say we are not living a life worth emulating,” she said.

The singer, 74, said it is worrisome that aged musicians are not living well after paying their dues as seasoned musicians and it is about time MUSIGA and GHAMRO lent a helping hand by putting measures in place to sort them out.

“I am in touch with most of the musicians in my age group and I tell you for a fact that things are not good with them. Many of them struggle to survive and it is a shame to see such musicians go through hard times because the systems that should help are not working well”, she said when she sat down with Graphic Showbiz in a recent interview.
