NAM 1 Case: Court Demands Tight Security During Hearing Amidst Safety Concerns

Source The Ghana Report

The Accra High Court has called for enhanced security in the case involving Nana Appiah Mensah (NAM 1), the CEO of defunct Menzgold Company Limited.

NAM 1 is in court for allegedly persuading over 16,000 individuals to invest a staggering GH¢1.68 billion in his gold purchase scheme, Menzgold.

The court’s decision follows an attack on a Menzgold Company Limited PRO after a recent court session.

Lead Counsel for NAM1, Kwame Boafo Akuffo, told the court that the said PRO was struck on the forehead with an object by one of the aggrieved customers.

The development prompted the court to prioritize safety for all parties in the case.

The trial judge subsequently ordered the registrar to arrange for more police and other security officers to screen everyone whenever the case is called in court.

Meanwhile, state prosecutors have filed fresh charges against the embattled CEO.

The case has been adjourned to December 4, 2023, to allow NAM1’s legal team sufficient time to scrutinize and respond to the new charges.

Earlier charges by the Attorney General include but are not limited to selling gold, operating a deposit-taking business without a license, inducement to invest, defrauding by false pretense, fraudulent breach of trust, and money laundering.
