NCCE calls for solutions to improve academic standards

The Sekyere South District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has held a parliamentary debate that sternly demanded solutions to the falling academic standards within the district.

The debate was organized to provide a platform for the three contesting parliamentary candidates to meet the electorate and to make known their plans for economic growth and development within the district.

Apart from the independent candidate who could not show up for the debate, representatives of the opposition NDC and the governing NPP were there to prove their worth for this year’s political contest.

Mr. Evans Nunoo, the District Director of NCCE in his welcome address stated that one of the reasons for the debate was to elicit from the contesting parliamentary candidates how they would help the district to surmount the challenges it faces especially in relation to falling academic standards.

Mr. Patrick Amankwa, an Educationist, who represented the NPP parliamentary candidate proposed the setting up of counselling offices in the various schools to help students understand the importance of education to their future.

In his response, Mr. Samuel Bediako of NDC indicated that he will collaborate with the district directorate of the Ghana Education Service to form guidance committees in the various schools that will be equipped to coach students on achieving academic excellence.

The programme that deepened the peace between supporters of the two major parties was highly successful and enlightening.
