No Road, No Assembly Elections – Aboduabo Residents Threaten

Residents of Aboduabo, a farming community in the Western North Region, are considering boycotting the upcoming assembly and 2024 general elections if the road network leading to the town remains unfixed.

According to them, even though they have complained countless times about the nature of the road to the necessary authorities, the road is still disastrous.

Some residents said they feel neglected and betrayed by the politicians who promised to construct the road.

They questioned the essence of voting for any political leader when “they would be abandoned with their challenges at the end of the day”.

A resident said the situation was affecting economic activities in the area as commercial vehicles have refused to ply the route.

“We have decided that in this coming assembly members and next year’s general elections, ‘no road, no vote,” a resident said.

Another resident stressed that if the road is not constructed, “we do not want to see even ballot boxes here”.

They wondered what would happen if someone was sick or a woman was in labour without vehicles to send them to the hospital.

They have also barred politicians from visiting the area for political campaigns.

According to the chief of Aboduabo, Nana Gyan Kwaw II, “It is even more difficult for pregnant women to be driven to the hospital on those bad roads.”

He feels deceived by the constant promises that go unfulfilled.

“We are farmers. We produce a lot of cash crops to support the development of this country, but yet still, our road network is not motorable; why?” he asked.
