North East Region: Fire guts petrol station in Janga
A fire outbreak at a filling station in Janga in the West Mamprusi Municipality of the North East Region has destroyed properties, on Thursday (9 February).
The assemblyman for Janga electoral area, Ben Yakubu Issah, said the incident was caused by a flare-up of fire when the filling station attendants attempted to draw fuel from a drum into a jerrycan.
“Someone called me that there was a fire outbreak around my area just in front of my house,” Issah told Asaase News. “The owner of the filling station told me that they were trying to draw some petrol from a drum to a yellow jerrycan. In the process, the fuel came out as fire.”
He added that the poor telecommunications network in the area made it difficult to call the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in time to douse the fire.
The residents tried to douse it by pouring sand into the flames but this was not helpful. The GNFS arrived later. There was no casualty, however, they lost a huge sum of cash sales and properties.
