NPP Flagbearer Race: Dr Kofi Apraku Turned Away In Attempt To Submit Forms

Source The Ghana Report

A presidential aspirant in the New Patriotic Party’s presidential race, Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku, could not file his nomination forms today.

This was after his documents were found to be incomplete.

Dr Apraku was supposed to be the first flagbearer aspirant to file his forms on Monday at the party’s headquarters at Asylum Down in Accra.

However, after meeting the party’s Elections Committee, the NPP stalwart was asked to go and rectify some anomalies and return.

Briefing the media after the engagement with the committee, Kwame Obiri Nkansah, who is the Director of Communications for the campaign team of Dr Apraku, explained that the CV of the aspirant and details of his contribution to the party were not part of the documents submitted.

“The process is a simple one. We left something out, and the committee chairman has asked us to add it. They are asking for his personal contribution to the party and his CV. We thought that one was not necessary because everybody knew what he had done, but that is the request, so we want to go and add those things.

“Hopefully, by Friday or Saturday, we will be back to file,” he added.

Meanwhile, former Minister for Trade and Industry Alan Kyerematen and Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia submitted their forms last Monday, June 12, 2023, and Friday, June 16, 2023, respectively.

The NPP opened nominations on May 26, 2023, with aspirants given up to June 24 to submit forms.

Currently, 10 presidential aspirants, including Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Kennedy Agyapong,  Mr Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, Kwabena Adjei Agyapong, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, and Joe Ghartey have picked up nomination forms to compete for the NPP’s flagbearer position.

The rest are Boakye Agyarko, Prof. Addai Nimoh, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, and Kwadwo Nsafoa Opoku.

The NPP plans to hold a Special Delegates Congress on August 26, 2023, to select the top five presidential aspirants.

These top five candidates will then compete on December 4, 2023, to secure the party’s flagbearer slot and lead the party in the 2024 general elections.
