Osei Kwame suggests salary reduction of Kotoko players
Former Asante Kotoko defender Osei Kwame Junior has called on the management of the club to reduce the salary of players amidst their struggles in the Ghana Premier League.
The Ghanaian giants have suffered six defeats in their last seven games in the Ghanaian top-flight, picking just a point across the period.
Kotoko won only one game in 2024 following a sharp decline in form, which has seen the Kumasi-based giants drop from title contenders to survival hopefuls.
To get the players very serious, the former Kotoko left-back has suggested a salary reduction for players.
“I think it’s time management to reduce the salary of these players. They are over-pampered. The lowest-paid player in Kotoko takes home GHS 2,000 who happens to be the junior player who is also a student”
“I believe when their salaries are reduced they put in seriousness. On Sunday, we play Samartex and I’m telling them we can’t afford to lose that match at home (Baba Yara stadium)”
“I understand the supporter’s plight, we are angry because we need good results going forward. Sack all lazy players from the club. Even if the coach gets sacked, the players should bear in mind that there will a total overhaul in the playing body. We need quality players in Kotoko if we want to win the league” he added.
Kotoko, who are currently eleventh on the table will face leaders Samartex on Sunday before a game against champions Medeama SC.
