Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested the chief of New Akrofuom, Nana Kwaku Amoah, in the Adansi Asokwa district for allegedly attempting to sodomise a 17-year-old boy.
The unfortunate incident happened in the early hours of Monday, October 23.
The suspect reportedly entered the young boy’s room with the intention of engaging in the act with him, however, the young boy alerted other community members.
The traditional leader upon sensing danger, fled the scene but the irate community members followed up at his residence and attempted to lynch him.
Nana Amoah claimed he went to collect a phone from the teenage boy and was attacked by some youth who accused him of attempting to sodomise the boy.
The timely intervention of the police saved him from the attackers and took him into custody.
Meanwhile, the assembly member for the New Akrofuom electoral area, Emmanuel Achirem who confirmed the incident said that the chief had previously been accused of similar misconduct.
Previous Incidents
This is not the first time the issue of sodomy has surfaced.
In August 2022, the Gomoa Nyanyano Police arrested a 37-year-old self-styled evangelist, Frederick Darko, for allegedly sodomizing a 15-year-old boy.
The preacher man allegedly lured the victim (name withheld) under the pretence of giving him spiritual direction.
The mother of the victim, Millicent Yeboah, was told her son’s destiny had been exchanged and would need spiritual cleansing; hence the victim relocated to live with the preacher.
The minor said Frederick Darko began sodomizing him when he was 13 and threatened to kill him if he told anybody about it.
In March 2023, a 39-year-old farmer identified as Eric Asiedu was sentenced to fourteen years imprisonment with hard labour, for sodomising a 13-year-old Class six pupil at Gomoa Mankessim in the Central Region.
According to the information gathered, the suspect, Eric popularly known as Agya Yaw sodomised the boy on his coconut farm.
The Suspect is said to have asked the victim to escort him to pluck coconut since the latter is good at doing that.
However, upon reaching the farm, he forcefully pushed the boy to the ground, removed his pants and forcefully had sex with him against a coconut tree.
He then warned the victim not to tell anybody what had transpired but not long after the incident the victim fell sick and was sent to the Gomoa Oguaa Health Centre, he then informed his parents what had happened to him.
Eric Asiedu was then arrested by the Agona Swedru Police.
