‘Science Labs Improve STEM Education

Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has stated that the government has equipped Senior High Schools across the country with cutting-edge science laboratories to encourage the study of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

According to him, the science labs are expected to provide the students with practical knowledge of the subjects.

Speaking during an inspection of educational projects in the Ashanti Region, the minister stated that the government, led by President Nana Akufo-Addo, would continue to create access for more Ghanaian children to enjoy free education, and urged beneficiaries of the Free SHS to take advantage of the opportunity.

He admonished them to earn good marks in order to make the huge investments made in their education worthwhile.

Dr. Adutwum said, in order to facilitate a smooth transition, basic-level students would be made to feel the equipment in SHS science labs even before they arrive.

Among the schools visited by the minister are Osei Kyeretwie SHS, Kumasi Girls SHS, Kumasi High School, Juaben SHS, Effiduase Senior High, Krobea Asante Vocational Institute, Asokore Ahmadiyya Girls SHS, St. Monica’s Girls and Boanim SHS.

The rest are Obuasi Secondary Technical, Christ the King SHS, Bekwai SDA SHS, Bosomtwe STEM Girls School, St. Michael Senior High, and Tepa Senior High.

Dr. Adutwum also paid courtesy calls on some traditional leaders and invited them to participate as critical stakeholders in a discussion about how to collaboratively transform education in Ghana.

At Tepa, the Education Minister was installed as the Development Chief (Nkosuohene) of the Tepa Traditional Area by the Paramount Chief, Nana Adusei Atwere Ampem I, for his tremendous commitment to the development of education in Ghana.

At a grand durbar held in his honour at Tepa in the Ahafo-Ano North Municipality, the Education Minister was outdoored with a stool name Nana Yaw Adutwum I.

The colourful celebration was attended by the heads of various Ministry of Education agencies.

The minister was lauded by Tepamanhene, who stated, “Your deep intellectual prowess coupled with your exemplary leadership style at the Education Ministry has brought great relief to parents and the country at large.”

“Your hard work has always been beyond our expectations and has contributed to our journey of success as a community,” Nana Atwere Ampem I said in the citation.

According to the Paramount Chief, the minister has distinguished himself in office, by handling a critical sector around which national progress revolves.

He entrusted the Tepa Senior High School to Dr. Adutwum as the Development Chief, urging him to take steps to improve the school’s numerous challenges.

Dr. Adutwum responded by saying he was humbled to be honoured by the chiefs and people of Tepa, and vowed his commitment to complement the Paramount Chief’s efforts to accelerate the development of the area.

He also commended the chief for his visionary leadership, saying that because Nana was already championing the development of the traditional area, teaming hands with him would accelerate progress in the area.

He stated that he has a responsibility as sector minister to offer the necessary facilities to improve academic work at Tepa SHS, and promised the people of his resolve to do so, especially now that he has been appointed as the town’s Development Chief.

He lauded Tepa’s Paramount Chief for establishing a College of Education in the town, which already has SHS and a Nurses Training College, stating that visionary leaders are needed to invest in education for the benefit of people.
