A group of Ghanaian sports journalists have secured a permit from the Ghana Police Service to demonstrate against the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports over the fallen football standards in Ghana.

According to sources, the police have granted permission for the march and will issue a public notice today at 14:00 GMT to inform the public of the route of the march.

The leaders of the group include notable sports journalists Veronica Commey, Saddick Adams and Patrick Osei Agyemang.

The demonstration is expected to take place on Wednesday, February 14, in Ghana’s capital, Accra, to register their displeasure over the state of football in the country.

According to Saddick Adams, the event is “a peaceful walk to present a petition” that the passion of the nation – football – is dying and that “there is no hate” but a “positive anger” to change the state of affairs.

The planned demonstration comes on the heels of Ghana’s first-round exit from the 2023 AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire, where the Black Stars failed to win a game in three outings.

This is the second AFCON edition in a row that Ghana got tossed out at the group stage, with the 2021 AFCON being the worst performance by Ghana in the history of the competition after picking just a point.

The organizers have urged all sports journalists and media houses to join them.
