Teenagers beaten to a pulp for theft at Wassa Atieku

Two fourteen-year-old boys have been meted with severe physical abuse and trauma for allegedly stealing a Bluetooth player and mobile phone accessories from one Philip Bontugu at Wassa Atieku in the Wassa East District of the Western Region.

The two, Daniel Mensah and Stephen Prah, according to reports from their families were found on Friday, April 12, 2024, tied on a tree with cow dung smeared on them.

They had suffered injuries after a mob beat them with motor chains and electric cables.

Mother of one of the victims, Sister Akos Florence explained that while asleep around 3 am on Friday, April, she overheard a mob noise in the town that some thieves had been caught.

Subsequently, when she woke up in the morning, she was told that the shop owner, Philip Bontugu, caught her 14-year-old son together with his friend for allegedly stealing his mobile phone accessories.

Sister of Daniel Mensah one of the victims, Esther Mensah in an interview condemned the barbaric act meted out to the boys.

She said even if the victims had indeed stolen, it was wrong for the shop owner to have put the law into his own hands and have the boys punished.

Esther Mensah therefore demanded justice for the victims.
