The Quartet Closing In On Mahama

Deep throat information indicates that John Mahama’s shortlist for a running mate draws a fence around four personalities. They are Eric Opoku, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang, Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, and Akwasi Oppong Fosu.

Eric Opoku is a former Brong Ahafo and Ashanti regional minister. Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang is a former Minister of Education. Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah is a former Minister of Communications, Education, Trade, and Industry, and Mr. Akwasi Oppong Fosu served as Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, and Environment and Science. The outsiders to this group are former Foreign Minister, Madam Hannah Tetteh, Mr. Leslie Tamakloe an IT Entrepreneur, and Prof. Kwame Addo an architect.

Reports say pressure mounting from camps within the NDC continues to multiply the possibilities which bring into the picture Dr. Zanetor Rawlings, a former police commissioner, Nathan Kofi Boakye, Okudjeto Ablakwa who is a former deputy minister, and Mr Julius Debrah the former chief of staff.

Sources say, the National Democratic Congress, NDC, is poised to announce soon the big name, which is, the one likely to partner with John Dramani Mahama as running mate for the December 2024 general elections.

If he wins in 2024, party insiders claim Mahama intends to focus on the economy. Since he is not eligible to contest in 2028, there will be the unavoidable task of choosing a running mate who becomes the vice president and eventually the flagbearer of the NDC in 2028.
