Two persons have been confirmed dead in a ghastly accident on Thursday evening (December 7, 2023) at the Oforikrom Taxi station in Kumasi.
The two lost their lives when a Man Diesel truck, grappling with brake failure, careened dangerously, running over people and cars.
The victims, an adult male and a young girl, lost their lives instantly.
Five others also sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical attention at a hospital in Kumasi.
Eyewitnesses recounted that the stationary Man Diesel truck, with registration number AS-1786-Y, had been parked due to a mechanical fault.
However, the unmanned truck started moving downhill toward the Anloga Junction, causing bystanders to run for safety.
The truck loaded with bags of fertilizer finally came to a halt after colliding with a nearby billboard with heavy metal rods close to the Total Energy filling Station.
But the uncontrolled truck had already wreaked havoc.
The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), police, military, and the National Fire Service swiftly responded to the distress call.
