UCC’s Rose Amoanimaa Yeboah wins gold for Ghana at World University Games

Rose Amoanimaa Yeboah, Ghana’s accomplished high jumper, has achieved a remarkable feat by clinching the gold medal at the ongoing FISU World University Games 2023. 

Displaying her prowess, she soared over the bar at 1.94 meters, not only securing the top position but also establishing a new national record.

The University of Cape Coast student’s exceptional leap proved triumphant, outperforming her competitors. Cyprus’ Elena Kulichenko secured the silver medal with a height of 1.91 meters, while Finland’s Venla Pulkkanen secured the bronze medal, reaching a personal best of 1.89 meters.

This victory marks a spectacular culmination of the past three years for the 21-year-old athlete who has won Ghana’s only medal at the ongoing Games.

Her achievements have been noteworthy, having previously seized the gold medal at the African Senior Athletics Championships held in Mauritius last year. Her accolades also include a gold medal at the African Games in Rabat, Morocco, in 2019.

In addition to her triumph, Yeboah’s new jump surpassed the previous national record set by Abigail Kwarteng, standing at 1.92 meters, achieved in 2022.

Confirmation arrived on Sunday that Yeboah’s talent will lead her to represent Ghana at the 2023 World Athletics Championships scheduled in Budapest.

The FISU Games, an esteemed international multi-sport event catering to student-athletes globally, has attracted more than 2,500 participants from over 50 nations, participating in the 11-day event.

The Games serve as a platform for emerging athletes to demonstrate their skills and dedication on a grand stage.
