US-based Ghanaian electrician falls to his death from 30-ft building

A US-based Ghanaian electrician, Akwasi Addae met his untimely death after falling from a 30-ft building at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) campus in Bethesda, Maryland.

45-year-old Akwasi Addae was doing repairs on the exterior of a building on January 10, 2024, when he fell through a grate and into an air-handling intake shaft, NBC Washington reported.

The report added that the NIH’s Occupational Health and Safety division reported the incident to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

Both groups are set to investigate the cause of Addae’s fall and “confirm appropriate safety measures are in place and followed.”

“We have notified the family and have offered condolences and support. We are also offering grief support to his NIH colleagues and NIH first responders,” an NIH spokesperson said in a statement.

Meanwhile, reports suggest that a one-week commemoration according to tradition has been held for the deceased in Maryland while the family makes plans for his burial and final funeral rites.

Some months ago a 23-Year-Old Ghanaian was also killed by Police after stabbing his parents in Maryland.

Aaron Mensah was shot by deputies in a neighborhood east of Frederick, according to a press release from the Independent Investigations Division of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General.

Mensah’s mother sustained “superficial injuries,” according to the sheriff’s office.

Mensah’s father was later pronounced dead after he was taken to Frederick Health Hospital in Maryland.
