US Congressman seeks sanctions against Ken Agyapong over journalist’s murder

US Congressman, Henry C. “Hank” Johnson Jr. is asking the United States government to sanction Ghanaian MP, Kennedy Agyapong over the death of investigative journalist Ahmed Hussein-Suale.

He was buried Friday afternoon in keeping with Islamic traditions.

By a letter dated January 18, 2019, addressed to U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Mr. Johnson does not only urge maximum U.S. diplomatic, law enforcement, and intelligence support for an investigation into the murder of Ahmed, he also wants “the application of travel, banking, and other applicable sanctions targeting Kennedy Agyapong MP,” for urging “violence against the journalist prior to his murder.”

Ken Agyapong, following the airing of a video documentary on corruption in football by Tiger Eye PI, urged his workers to beat up Mr. Hussein-Suale anywhere they see him for being a “bad” and “dangerous” boy destroying the reputations of others, a charge he offered to reward anyone successful.

But Congressman Johnson says the professional execution-style killing of Mr. Hussein-Suale in the aftermath of Mr. Agyapong’s disgraceful threats raises serious and credible suspicions about the circumstances of this murder, saying “We cannot allow the voices of truth to be muffled by those who would benefit from silence and deceit. Our cherished American principles of freedom of the press necessitate a prompt and thorough investigation.”
