Veteran commentator Joe Lartey laments Ghana’s inability to break Afcon trophy drought

In a heartfelt expression of frustration and disappointment, veteran commentator Joe Lartey has opened up about Ghana’s unyielding struggle to end their prolonged Afcon trophy drought.

As the nation’s fervent hopes were once again dashed on the continental stage in Cameroon, Lartey’s poignant lamentation sheds light on the underlying challenges and missed opportunities that have kept Ghana from clinching the elusive title.

Ghana has won the Africa Cup of Nations four times (1963, 1965, 1978, and 1982), while finishing as runners-up five times (1968, 1970, 1992, 2010, and 2015).

“It is not just disappointing. It is painful,” the veteran commentator told JoySports

“It is painful that we haven’t won the AFCON,”

“If we do a few things right [we can win it], because football appears to be in our blood. It is part of us, and we just have to do the right things,” he added.

“I want to meet President Okraku, and then we talk, and I hope sincerely, and I pray that he listens. You know when you are cutting the path and it’s crooked, the man behind you or sitting elsewhere will see it. So I hope he may take some of the things I will tell him to heart and act on it,”

“I listened to a speech he made the other day, and it was very good, very nice speech,”
