Why Will You Choose Love Over Endless Family Chronic Disease?

Source The Ghana Report

Love is very strong to the extent that one can be depressed when there is separation sometimes.

Who wouldn’t be happy to stay forever with someone they feel so good, loved and proud to be with at all times?

Love like Zora Neale Hurston will say makes your soul crawl out from its hiding place especially when you are with your soulmate.

I understand your feelings lovebirds but wait a minute and tiptoe backward to resonate on your blood groups before taking steps further with your love story.

It’s very sad to know that most people fall in love without checking their genotypes for that compatibility.

Love is blind but as two people who are eager to stay together as husband and wife, don’t let the intangible word ‘love’  blindfold you.

Gone are the days sickle cell disease wasn’t taken seriously but this generation and posterity ought to be awake and conscious of the deadly chronic disease.

World Sickle Cell Awareness Day is marked globally every year on June, 19 to improve public knowledge and an understanding of the disease, and the challenges experienced by patients, their families, and caregivers.

Sickle cell trait (AS) according to the Sickle Cell Association of the National Capital Area, Inc. is not a “type” of sickle cell disease. Sickle Cell according to the Association is an inherited condition in which both hemoglobin ‘A’ and ‘S’ are produced in the red blood cells, always more ‘A’ than ‘S’.

How Will You Know Your Children Are Likely To Suffer From Sickle Cell?

If one parent has sickle cell anemia (SS) and the other parent has normal (AA) blood, all of the children will have sickle cell trait. If one parent has sickle cell anemia (SS) and the other parent has sickle cell trait (AS), there is a 50% chance (1 chance out of 2) of having a baby with either sickle cell disease or sickle cell trait with each pregnancy. When both parents have sickle cell trait (AS), they have a 25% chance (1 chance out of 4) of having a baby with sickle cell disease with each pregnancy.

Unlike other global annually marked events, creating awareness of Sickle Cell Disease is something that should be done every day to sensitize people to its negative implications.

Always remember that sickle cell disease can be inherited from one generation to the other.

The best way to prevent your family from living permanently with this health disorder is by making a move now to check your blood group before settling with your partner.

As we create awareness of the disease each day, we must never forget to have compassion on victims of sickle cell disease by donating blood to save them from premature death always.
