Yendi-Bimbilla Accident: One Dead; Six Injured

Source The Ghana Report

One person is reported dead in an accident involving a tricycle popularly known as ‘motorking’ on the Yendi-Bimbilla road.

Also, six others sustained various degrees of injury and have been rushed to the hospital.

The affected passengers were traveling from Yendi to the Bimbilla market when one of the tricycle tyres burst, causing an unfortunate accident.

“When we were coming, I realized that the other side of the tyre burst. When it burst, the ‘motorking’ couldn’t balance and the motor somersaulted. It was not overloaded. If it was overloaded, the story would have been different,” the rider told CitiNews.

The tricycle is said to be a popular means of transport for many commuters in the Northern part of Ghana.

The country is not only losing its human capital to accident-related deaths but productive lives are being rendered disabled due to serious injuries.

More than 200 people die monthly in road accidents in Ghana, the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has said.

The latest figure was for the period between January 1, 2022, and August 31, 2022, which accounted for 1,600 deaths.

This represents a 16% decrease as compared to the same period in 2021, which recorded 1,800 deaths.
