An 80-year-old man was burnt to ashes at Larteh Akuapem in the Eastern Region after his room caught fire.

The incident occurred on Saturday, February 18, 2023.

According to reports, the victim, identified as Paa Kwame, had been bedridden for years due to ill health from old age.

On the fateful day, he requested a cigarette from a family member who had been his caretaker for years.

As usual, she provided the cigarette for the victim.

It is believed that while he was smoking, a cigarette stub fell from his hands and made contact with his clothes, igniting the fire while he was alone in the room.

Paa Kwame reportedly burnt to ashes before anyone could come to his aid.

This is one of several fire-related deaths recorded in Ghana in the first two months of 2023.

In January, a police officer, his wife, and their 3-month-old baby died in a fire that razed their Apromase police barracks in the Ashanti Region.

The cause of the fire is yet to be announced.

Another fire incident claimed the lives of a young mother and her two children at Abuakwa in the Ashanti Region on February 1.

The mother, Abigail Yeboah, and her two daughters, Norah Yeboah 9, and Philipa Yeboah, 6, were reportedly asleep when the fire started.

The Ghana National Fire Service(GNFS) revealed that a mosquito coil caused the fire outbreak that claimed the lives of the family.
