AIDS Commission partners GMB Queen to fight HIV

The Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC) has signed an agreement with winner of the 2018 Ghana’s Most Beautiful (GMB) TV reality show, Naomi Abena Obeng, to undertake educational campaign on HIV/AIDS in the country.

The move is part of efforts aimed at reducing the spread of HIV/AIDS, particularly its prevalence among the youth.

At a brief ceremony  on Thursday in Accra, Director-General  of the GAC, Mr.  Steve Gyeremeh Atuahene expressed his gratitude to Ms. Obeng for choosing a project that would advance the cause of the GAC.

Mr. Atuahene emphasized the Commission would provide audiences, counseling, logistics as well as financial support to her to make the campaign a success.

The GMB Queen expressed her gratitude to the Aids Commission and assured them of her commitment towards the advancement of the youth.

She expressed her willingness to take the project to the next phase by ensuring it becomes a national one.

“With the coming on board of the GAC and other partners, it has become necessary to make it a national project so that many more people will benefit,” Ms. Obeng said.

Meanwhile, statistics gathered from the Ghana Aids Commission indicates there are 334,713 people living with virus in the country as at the end of 2018.

New infections at at 2018 was also estimated at 19,931 comprising 5,532 youth between ages 15 to 24 years. A total of 14,181 lives were lost to the disease.
