Greater Accra Market Tours Kick-started

Alan Charms Markets

Ghanaian politician, and leader of what has become known as the Butterfly Movement, Alan Kyerematen whose maiden bid for Ghana’s presidency was launched in 2006, continues the chase for the great glittering goal. His status as a bigwig in the governing New Patriotic Party, NPP notwithstanding, Alan Kyerematen pulled off one of its epic surprises by resigning to form his party hoping to contest the NPP and the NDC in the December 2024 polls.

Alan, an Ashanti is predicted to cause a sensation in his native region and stifle the NPP in its stronghold. Alan has started his campaign in the capital city of Accra where he had just visited traders at Abossey Okine to a rousing welcome. This is the first leg of a Greater Accra Regional Tour which has extended to Makola and Kaneshie markets.

It is at the start of a charm offensive in markets around Ghana which are a formidable constituency to his campaign. The markets are the primary points of contact for Alan Kyerematen who is one of the longest-serving ministers of trade and industry in Ghana, having held the portfolio in both the Kufuor and the Akufo Addo administrations.

The question many are asking is, can Alan and his Movement For Change rise to become formidable to break the political duopoly of the NPP and the NDC? Alan says he represents the third force that will break the duopoly. Dr Bawumia of the NPP is sloganeered on breaking the 8, which is ensuring his party rules three consecutive terms, former President John Mahama is urging voters to vote for the NDC to break what his party calls ”breaking the corruption of the incumbent” for a new direction.
