Assault On Russian Culture In Ukraine Partly The Cause Of Russia’s Invasion

The conflict is more than meets the eye. An exclusive interview granted to Ghanaian Journalist, Napoleon Ato Kittoe by Sergei Berdnikov the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Ghana in Accra revealed, that the factors underlying the impasse between Europe’s Caucasian neighbors and bound by close historical ties are much deeper than the world probably knows of.

Ukraine and Russia are culturally interconnected, and the former’s new geopolitical gravitation towards the West caused her to tear up that layer in their relations with Russia. According to the Russian ambassador to Ghana, Ukraine has banned the Russian language and destroyed all literature bearing anything Russian.

The far-reaching measures have also seen closures of schools and public spaces related to Russia in Ukraine. That is tantamount to cultural disorientation and annihilation, as well as the expulsion of Russian-speaking residents in Ukraine via communist-inferior tactics.

However, what Russia considered most unbearable and the straw to break the Camel’s back was the unfettered access granted by Kyiv to Ukrainian territory for NATO forces, (Northern Atlantic Treaty Organization), the military wing of the western alliance. According to Russia, the Western forces stationed near Russia’s vast border with Ukraine are not only dangerous to the security of Russia but offensive as the agreement that allowed Ukraine to tread the  path to independence after the collapse of the USSR specifically precluded what Russia calls “a Western intrusion” on the former territories

“That wasn’t the conditions laid out in the agreement covering the formal disintegration of the Soviet Union in 1991,” the Ambassador said. He however warned that Russia has the might to thwart or obliterate foreign aggression in any form.

The Russian diplomat perceives some national media organizations are only running with one-sided information given by Western-controlled outlets, without seeking the opinions of Russia. He noted that his country is unperturbed and continues to face provocations with a cool head because the facts position Russia as a legitimate actor.

Mr. Sergei Berdnikov said it serves the disoriented better if recourse is taken to the map of geography to see if Russia is indeed a little country as the propagandists would want the world to believe.

On the exit of Russia from the G8, now G7, the Russian diplomat said the parting of ways was on a mutual basis because Russia and the Western nations in the group continually projected irreconcilable positions on issues discussed at that Forum.
