The Ghana Police Service has categorically denied reports of confusion during the #OccupyBoG protest organized by the Minority in Parliament.

Earlier reports on social media had suggested turmoil as demonstrators attempted to submit their petition to the Bank of Ghana.

In a brief statement, the police addressed the misinformation, stating, “We wish to strongly encourage the public to disregard this misinformation, as there has not been any confusion whatsoever since the beginning of the demonstration, and we look forward to having a very peaceful demonstration at the end of the day”.

The highly anticipated protest, postponed on several occasions, was against the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Ernest Addison and his deputies.

Per an earlier letter, the minority said the primary focus of the protest was the central bank’s alleged printing of over 80 billion for the Akufo-Addo government.

They highlighted that this action had contributed to a hyperinflation rate of 54.1% in December 2022, leading to severe economic challenges for Ghanaians.

Furthermore, the caucus indicated that the central bank’s actions have resulted in approximately 850,000 Ghanaians being pushed into abject poverty.

According to the minority, these actions led to significant losses for the institution, including a loss of GH¢60.8 billion and negative equity of GH¢5.1 billion in 2022.

Meanwhile, the demonstration ended peacefully, with the minority refusing to hand over their petition to the central bank’s head of security.
