Source The Ghana Report

Dreams FC’s incredible journey in the CAF Confederation Cup concluded with a resounding 3-0 defeat against Egyptian powerhouse Zamalek at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

Despite a goalless draw in the first leg in Cairo, Dreams entered the match with confidence, initially pressing forward aggressively. However, Zamalek’s seasoned experience proved decisive.

Zamalek capitalized on their first real opportunity, with defender Hamza Mathlouthi scoring from a corner kick in the 12th minute. This early setback rattled Dreams, and they struggled to regain their footing. Zamalek’s Benin forward, Samson Akinyoola, extended the lead with a brilliant goal in the 27th minute.

Throughout the match, Zamalek maintained control, particularly dominating the first half. In the second half, they sealed their victory with a third goal from Mostafa Shalaby.

At the final whistle, Dreams FC players were visibly disappointed, but they can hold their heads high. Their journey to the semi-finals marked a historic achievement, as they became the first Ghanaian club in 20 years to reach this stage of a CAF interclub competition. Their performance deserves significant commendation.

Zamalek now awaits the winner of the match between USM Alger and RS Berkane as they advance to the final.
