IGP sends team from Police headquarters to investigate killing of 2 officers

The acting Inspector General of Police, James Oppong-Boanuh, has dispatched a team from the Police headquarters in Accra to assist the Central Regional Command to investigate the killing of two police officers at Kasoa.

Sergeant Michael Dzamesi and Lance Corporal Mohammed Awal were on duty Wednesday afternoon when they were shot dead by some men in an unregistered vehicle at Buduburam near Kasoa in the Central Region.

The two officers from the Kasoa Motor Traffic and Transport Department were said to be conducting road checks when the incident happened.

The unregistered vehicle was signaled to stop as it approached the checkpoint but the driver failed to stop, causing the police to chase the vehicle.

According to the police in the Central Region, the assailants began shooting at the police vehicle at a point and in the process the officers were hit. One died on the spot and the other later at the Police Hospital in Accra.

Three persons have since been arrested in connection with the incident.

The acting IGP who is currently attending a National Police Command Conference in the Volta Region has condemned the killing of the two officers, and said a team has been dispatched to assist in investigating the crime.

“The Police Administration condemns this dastardly and cowardly act!” a statement signed by Director General of Police Public Affairs ACP David Eklu said Wednesday evening.

It said the acting IGP “is in touch with the families of the deceased officers for the necessary support to be offered them as per police procedure.
