Kejetia market floods again after Wednesday rains

Wednesday’s downpour has left the Kejetia Market in Kumasi Metropolis flooded.

It is reported that the downpour destroyed goods worth thousands of Ghana cedis with affected traders, expressing disappointment over the continuous flooding of the market.

They appealed to the government and the authorities at the market to come to their aid.

“If you had come here earlier, you would not have found a place to step. My wares have all been destroyed. So we are appealing to the authorities to come to our aid, help us” a trader said.

Another trader also said “By the time we got here all our things were soaked in water. Everything is destroyed so we appeal to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), if they have to desilt the drains, they should do so, they should help us.”

Reacting to the situation, the chairman of the Concerned Kejetia Traders Association, Mr. Frank Antwi,  advised shopowners at the market to keep their wares on high tables and not on the floor to prevent the floods from destroying the items.

Mr. Antwi further appealed to the KMA Mayor to ensure that the choked drains around the market are de-silted.

The chairman also revealed the association had sued the management of the market for the damage caused to the properties of their members in previous floods.

He, however, noted that they were awaiting the decision of the court.
