Management Of Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park Justifies Entry Fee Increment

Management of the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park has defended its decision to tremendously increase fee charges at the renovated facility.

The new charges have been increased by over 400 percent.

With the new fee charges at the site, non-Ghanaian adults will have to pay GH¢100 to visit the park while Ghanaian adults will pay GH¢25.

Tertiary students who are non-Ghanaians will pay GH¢60 while Ghanaian tertiary students will pay GH¢5. School children are to pay GH¢5 before entering.

The colossal increment has sparked a series of debates on social media one side of netizens agreeing with the decision of management to increase their prices to generate enough revenue to maintain the facility.

Others claim the increment might deter tourists who intend to visit the facility.

The acting Director of the Park, Edward Quao, in an interview disclosed that they need money to keep the place running.

“We have new facilities in the Park, and we need money to maintain them and so if we don’t put these measures in place, it will be really difficult for us to maintain them.”

The redeveloped Park commissioned on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo includes a presidential library, a reception facility, an amphitheater, a restaurant, Freedom Hall, and a digitalized payment and access system.

It is estimated the refurbished Park will attract some one million domestic and international tourists annually.

As of Tuesday, July 11, 2023, when the facility was opened for public access, students and other citizens have visited the venue to have a feel of the environment.

Management is optimistic that during weekends, families, researchers, and other tourists will visit the revamped facility for pleasure.
