My mother advised me to join Southampton but my heart said no – Joseph Paintsil reveals

Ghana international, Joseph Paintsil has opened up on his links with a move to Southampton in the summer transfer window.

The forward is one of the many Ghanaian players who made the news on multiple occasions before the transfer window closed.

Among the clubs that were linked to him, Joseph Paintsil was wanted by English Championship side Southampton.

Although the Saints will contact KRC Genk, the Black Stars attacker decided to stay in Belgium.

Speaking in an interview with Het Laatste Nieuws, Joseph Paintsil said his mother advised him to join Southampton.

However, he said he listened to his heart to stay at Genk.

“Many people whose opinion I respect told me that I should leave this summer. Even my mother asked me to opt for a transfer

“My godmother told me Southampton is a good club, you will do well there. But my heart said no,” the Black Stars winger said.

Paintsil missed Ghana’s two games in the September international break due to an injury. He is expected to be back for the October international break where the Black Stars will take on Mexico and USA.
