The Board of Trustees has already flown in stones from Israel to be used as the foundation stone.

National Cathedral will have Israel’s Wailing Wall and Garden of Gethsemane – Board

Ghana aims to cash in on the $18billion religious tourism industry when the construction of the national cathedral is complete.

The Secretary of Board of Trustees for the National Cathedral, Prophet Victor Kusi Boateng, indicated that stones from Israel had been flown in to be used as the foundation stone of the construction.

President Nana Akufo-Addo is expected the grace a ceremony on Thursday, which will signal the start of the construction.

The ground-breaking ceremony comes three years after President Nana Akufo-Addo cut the sod for the construction work on Monday, March 6, 2017.

Prophet Victor Kusi Boateng indicated that there were plans to replicate the Garden of Gethsemane and the Wailing Wall all cited in Israel.

The economic power of the national cathedral

“A lot of people think we are just building a church and people are coming to sing. No, no, no,” he said in a JoyNews interview, monitored by theghanareport.com.

Religious tourism is estimated at a value of US$18 billion, involving 300 million travellers. Prophet Victor Kusi Boateng indicated that the Board wanted to give the National Cathedral, “an economic dimension.”

The project estimated at an initial cost of $100million will be at the center of Ghana’s religious tourism. He said the Board hoped to divert some of the attention of religious tourists from Israel to Ghana.

He said Ghana could become an alternative for travellers with a low budget. “Somebody is in Nigeria. He wants to go to Israel. He doesn’t have 2,000 dollars, but he has 300 dollars,” the clergyman explained how the cathedral could pull in visitors.

The garden of Gethsemane and the Wailing Wall

Prophet Kusi Boateng hyped the 5000-seater national cathedral as a construction project that would demonstrate the ‘awesomeness’ of God.

“Every fruit and vegetable in the Bible, every single one of them will be in our garden,” he revealed of the Board’s commitment to recreating the Garden of Gethsemane environment where Jesus prayed until his tears turned blood ahead of his crucifixion.

The fruits and vegetables from this replicated garden would also be used to cook food which would be sold at the restaurant to be built in the National Cathedral, he said.

The garden of Gethsemane is full of olive trees, some as old as 900 years.

The Western Wall, also called the Wailing Wall, is  located in the Old City of Jerusalem and is the only standing remains of the second temple of Jerusalem, which was destroyed by the Romans.

God’s work requires the best

He said the grand plans of the Board of Trustees required the hiring of the best professionals in construction and architecture.

This is why the Board and the government have hired one of the world’s best architect, David Adjaye, to draw up building plans, the Board Secretary said.

There would be other experts and professionals from Israel who would be coming in to help with construction plans, he indicated.

“We are not just bringing somebody from Goaso….We are not going to bring just ordinary people to build it for us” he said.

The donation of land by the state, the President indicated, was to give the project the “required national significance”.

Several buildings, including the residence of Supreme Court justices, have been pulled down on the prime lands at Ridge in Accra.

The Mali Embassy which used to sit on the land has been relocated as well as the passport office.

‘Only two buildings are left’, he said and added that they would be demolished by March ending. “Every single building sitting on this plot of land will be gone,” the reverend minister said.

has revealed the area to be demolished to make way for the heritage project.

He said the failure of persons to stop the construction should be enough signal that God was involved in the building of the National Cathedral.

So far, the Supreme Court has dismissed three suits against the controversial construction plans.

He described opposition to the construction as similar to Sanballat and Tobiah, who opposed Nehemiah when he resolved to build the Temple of Jerusalem.

“But this cathedral will surely be built” he said.

The board, chaired by Most Reverend Samuel Asante Antwi, has been charged with “agreeing on the design, supervising the construction and raising the money for the project” and “in completing the task, the Board of Trustees would also be responsible for managing the cathedral”.

The Chairman is assisted by Archbishop Charles Palmer Buckle with Prophet Victor Kusi Boateng serving as Secretary.

Other members of the Board include, Apostle Opoku Onyinah, Rev. Joyce Aryee, Professor Cephas Amenyo, Rt. Rev. Offei Akrofi, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, Rev. Eastwood Anaba, Bishop Dag Heward-Mills, Pastor Mensa Otabil, Rev Dr. Frimpong Manso and former Moderator of the Presbyterian Church, Prof. Emmanuel Martey.

Shameful. When school children have no place to study. Communities sharing same water with animals. Our leaders have the joy to build cathedral. God will definitely question them same day.
Remember, God don’t dwell in cathedral

I wonder why other religions in the country are looking on for one religion to dupe the country that much? Or are there plans for a national mosque for muslims and a national temple for buddhists in the pipeline that’s why everybody is shutting up for this ungodly thing in the name of God to happen? I sometimes wonder what sort of citizen we are. There are very very important live saving tasks in the country we need money to carry out, and here we have a president who is pushing for the construction of a hopeless cathedral. Tell that project manager or whatever he calls himself that all genuine christians will still go to Israel on pilgrimage. No Nigerian christian will forfeit going to Israel and rather come to Ghana because we have a copy of Gethsemane gardens or a copy of weeping walls here. Christian leaders in Ghana, you don’t stop surprising me. Just check the pack of crooks on the board of trustees. I truly don’t feel like doing anything to help this country solve its numerous problems. We just don’t care about our woes.

Jerusalem annex or Israel annex. Religious leaders have not thought of the moral decay in Ghana yet. We are not diffeent from Biblical Sodom and Gomorrah. Whom do we think ee are fooling. We speak as though Almighty God is in our pocket to the extent that we justify our sinful nature as been a God’s calling or God’s ways.

Fellow Ghanaians, if after reading this article, you don’t get the grand picture of what is being done then you probably never will. The Eiffel tower, The St. Paul’s Cathedral, The Notre Dame Cathedral, etc. are top grossing tourists structures in their respective host countries (you can read about them) do you know that when this structures were proposed to be built, some people who just didn’t get the big picture fought tooth and nail to oppose their construction? ( You can read about them)
When Kwame Nkrumah proposed to build the Tema Motor way, The Akosombo dam, etc. Some so called elites and and a section of Ghanaians vehemently opposed them.
For those who get it, we wish them well and Devine wisdom to see this through with the integrity and masterful craftsmanship that this project deserves and by the time other countries see the masterful economic aspect to this whole project, Ghana, hopefully will be on the next one.
    Twa, omanye aba!

Talk about getting our priorities in a twist! At this rate, I won’t be surprised to see them put up the familiar fake image of “Jesus ” with his flowing hair, to reinforce the “superiority ” of the white man and continue to exploit the ignorance of people .This president is a seasoned politician exploiting the religious psyche of Ghanaians, because he knows religion is an effective tool to control the people.

Ooh Ghana!!!! This logic by Prophet Kusi -Boateng is flawed!!! The locations in The Holy Bible is driving a lot of the Religious Tourism. Please ooh, where is Ghana in the Bible? Even the few tourist sites we have in Ghana are in a poor state – road to Kakum Park. Misplaced priorities Paa Ni3????

    *ATEMUDA (JUDGMENT DAY) ARK*
NADAA is constructing his Ark where his “family and friends” will seek refuge during the deluge caused by the misrule of the Dukadaya (NDC and NPP). NADAA’s pal, J. J. Rawlings, has had his Ark built already. The National Theatre is the Rawlings’ Ark. The Tsikatas/Rawlings/Ahwoism/Mahamas Mafioso Cabal have, by twist of fate, built their JUDGMENT ARK. The Nadaas/Marfos/Gabbys/KenOforiAttahs Mafioso Cabal, by twist of faith, are building their JUDGMENT ARK. Judgement day is surely coming and this time those who a president and a judge have respectfully exposed as “greedy bastards” and “create, loot and share” and their “children with sharp teeth” devouring our common wealth and resources like locusts shall be assembled to be probed and made to account for their stewardship. The time of ramshackle people’s courts are gone as it is in the National Theatre and National Cathedral that the “Covenant” between the ruling elites of the Dukadaya (EBITEYE) and the “people or masses + middle-class” (EBINTEYIE) will be put before Nyame/Allah/God. Such is the revelation. So be it because the *Voice of the people is the voice of God/Nyame/Allah*.

This is a way of getting people to your side Mr president but one thing I believe is that, God knows what man knows not,
That’s to say, if you are ruling for another four years too, then only God can judge

Oh! fellow Ghanaians why are some of us being hepocrite, like Judas when he prevented the woman with perfume from pouring it on Jesus feet. Jesus said we always have the poor with us.
Of course when it comes to issues of God and Christianity let us leave our ‘sheer politics behind. Even if it fails it economical benefits, what are your worries.? The antagonist have you finished taking care of the poor people in your family and neighborhood? Take heart Jesus reigns.
