Police Arrest Two Imposters For Selling Fake ECG Metres In Tarkwa

Source The Ghana Report

The Tarkwa Central Police have arrested two persons for posing as Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) workers.

The two impersonators, Stella Ankomah, 23 and Eric Kwaisie, 29, from Jomoro, sold and installed a fake electricity meter to a customer at Damang in the Western Region at GH¢4,700.

The suspects have been charged with false pretence, among other charges.

The Western Regional Public Relations Officer of the ECG, Benjamin Quarcoo, who confirmed the arrest, said the customer, after suspecting foul play, alerted the district manager, who invited the police to arrest the imposters.

“The suspects were able to convince the customer to part with an amount of GH¢4,700 in exchange for a 3-phase meter, but the customer, suspecting foul play, alerted the District Manager, who in turn invited the police to arrest the suspects,” Mr Quarcoo said on Citi News.

He advised customers to patronise authorised ECG officials to avoid falling prey to scammers.

‘We advise our customers to only deal with authorised ECG officials at our offices and customer service centres so that they don’t fall victim to such persons who try to fleece unsuspecting persons of their hard-earned money.”
