Pregnant Women Lead Demonstration In Assin South

Several pregnant women led demonstrators to pour their concerns and frustrations over deplorable roads in the Assin South District of the Central Region.

According to some residents, the roads in the area are muddy and slippery due to the recent rainfalls, which has negatively impacted healthcare delivery and emergency service.

The protestors said the bad nature of the roads has resulted in complications for pregnant women and deaths for individuals unable to reach nearby hospitals for timely medical care.

Bad roads have become characteristic of the road networks in Ghana, which has influenced most communities to embark on demonstrations and sometimes chase MPs visiting their constituencies.

On July 4, 2023, a group of youths who preferred to be identified as concerned citizens of Adjei Kojo threatened to prevent Member of Parliament for the Tema West Constituency, Carlos Ahenkorah, from embarking on any political activity in the area in the upcoming general elections citing failure by authorities to fix their deplorable roads.

Also, on October 24, 2022, residents of Amasaman Okusubeade, Kojo Ashong, Oboom, and Three Junction hit the streets to demonstrate against bad roads.

The protest was dubbed: “Fix our roads demonstration.”

According to the residents, they have complained several times about the poor nature of the roads but to no avail.

Again on August 26, 2022, three communities in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Constituency in the Ashanti Region pounced on their Member of Parliament (MP), Emmanuel Agyei, with cutlasses over the deplorable roads in the constituency.

The MP was pursued by residents of Kobeng, Seidi, and Amanchia when he visited the communities for a dialogue on Wednesday,  August 24, 2022.
