President Swears In Two High Court Judges

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo swore into office two High Court judges in a ceremony at the Jubilee House on Monday.

They are Justice Dorothy Ayodele Kingsly-Nyinah and Justice Ama Sefenya Ayittey.

At the short ceremony, the president congratulated the judges and declared them qualified and fit for the office of Justices of the High Court.

He emphasised to them the significance of the High Court in the country’s administration of justice and the significant position they currently hold.

President Akufo-Addo advised the new justices to demonstrate sincerity, integrity, and proper understanding of the law.

“A corrupt and incompetent judge is a danger to the public and judicial administration. The situation where judges proffer judgments based on decisions from lower courts and cite them as law is not acceptable, and even less so when judges cite no authority at all for their rulings and give orders without reasons.

“You must be learned, know your case law and ensure your decisions and judgments are properly motivated,” the president said.

He further encouraged them to take full advantage of the technology available to them to advance the rule of law in this modern era.

The judges also thanked the president for the confidence posed in them and pledged that they would carry out their duties in accordance with the constitution.
