The Attorney General (AG) and Minister of Justice, Godfred Dame, has directed the police to investigate the assault case at Adisadel College and arraign the suspect by Friday, July 28, 2023.
The disturbing video, which has since gone viral, shows a student thought to be a senior, locking the neck of another student with his elbow and hitting his head against a metal bed, causing immediate swelling and a cut on the victim’s right cheek.
The incident, as disclosed by Ms Margaret Annor Afari, the victim’s biological mother, occurred on June 30, 2023.
She said one of her sons saw the viral video and drew her attention to the incident.
The violent video, circulating on social media, has sparked outrage and raised concerns about the safety of students housed in educational institutions.
Since the video went viral, the perpetrator has been suspended, and the victim has been punished for failing to report the incident. The housemaster has also lost his post.
In reaction to the incident, officials of the Ghana Education Service (GES) have noted that they were deeply concerned and strongly condemned the barbaric act by the culprit and are taking immediate action.
“We applaud the school authorities for taking swift action to suspend the culprit pending further investigation,” parts of a release by the GES read.
