5 Intriguing Revelations from Yvonne Nelson’s Memoir

Source The Ghana Report

The release of Ghanaian actress, Yvonne Nelson’s riveting memoir, ‘I Am Not Yvonne Nelson, stirred a lot of reactions on social media especially on the issue of her abortion of renowned musician Sarkodie’s pregnancy.

Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson has revealed that renowned rapper Michael Owusu Addo (Sarkodie) impregnated her in 2010 but had to abort it because he wasn’t ready to accept responsibility for the pregnancy.

Yvonne Nelson disclosed this to the public in Chapter 8 of her book.

The book was unveiled at the Peduase Lodge on Sunday, June 18, 2023.

The book entailed a number of untold stories of Yvonne Nelson notable amongst the revelations in the book have been put together by The Ghana Report below.

I ABORTED SARKORDIES’S BABY IN 2010

The actress recounts her decision to terminate the pregnancy in the book because the rapper did not accept responsibility.

“I had gone for a pregnancy test to confirm what becomes the obvious conclusion for a sexually active young woman who missed her monthly flow. I was in the company of Karen. And when the test result was ready, I wasn’t strong enough to open it. She did and declared the verdict.”

“On an ordinary day, I would have laughed out loud, and that would trigger a string of jolly conversations and jokes. But this was no laughing matter. It was a grim piece of information that was capable of turning my world upside down. I wasn’t the only one responsible for the situation, so I called the man whose potent seed had germinated in me. His name is Michael Owusu Addo, a renowned Ghanaian musician who is better known as Sarkodie,” she further states in the book.

According to the actress, “Sarkodie was a budding musician with the potential to become one of the biggest artists in Ghana and beyond. At the time, however, the future looked uncertain, and his way through the maze of life still appeared too foggy to predict. Success was not guaranteed. He was still living with his mother and was not ready to carry a burden while he was being carried by his mother.”

“I wouldn’t call what had developed between us a serious relationship. I gravitated toward people in the music industry. For the longest time in my life, music was my getaway from all the unpleasant things life threw at me. So, I liked his talent. We started talking and got close. Closer.”

Yvonne Nelson also indicated that the pregnancy at age 25 hindered her from participating in most acting activities, although she was only a budding actress when the incident happened.

“Having an abortion is one of the most regrettable mistakes in life. If the clock of time could be rewound to my younger self, I would keep it. But the benefit of hindsight is something not useful because the lessons learned cannot be applied retrospectively,” the book captures.

IYANYA CHEATED ON ME WITH TONTO DIKEH

In her book, “I Am Not Yvonne Nelson,” Nelson alleged that her relationship with Iyanya ended because of his affair with Dikeh.

“My most significant experiment with love happened with the Nigerian Afropop singer, Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk. It was not strange that from my near-death experience after a brief spell with a musician, I fell in love with another musician. I have already professed my love for music and how gravitating toward musicians came to me as second nature. Part of my acting career was in Nigeria, so it was also natural that our paths crossed.”

“We had a decent relationship—breakfast in bed and all the niceties of a dream relationship one could think of. I had the assurance that he was someone I could be with forever. He tattooed my initials, YN, on his wrist, and I thought that was a big deal. If he wasn’t serious about me, he wouldn’t do that. In his hit song, “Ur Waist”, he mentioned how he lusted over me. One can therefore imagine my shock when I returned to Ghana after one of my visits to Nigeria and someone called me from his house.

“The caller said anytime I left Iyanya’s place, another actress came over to him and sometimes slept over. The person felt strongly that there was something going on between them and thought I should know”

“That actress turned out to be Tonto Dikeh of Nigeria, one of the female celebrities Iyanya named in his “Ur Waist” song. When I was convinced about the authenticity of the information I received, I was heartbroken. I took to Twitter to rant and vent. Tonto Dikeh responded on Twitter, saying people changed and so did feelings, so I should move on.”

I DATED JOEL DUNCAN WILLIAMS- I HAVE TO BE DELIVERED BEFORE HE MARRIES ME

Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson also revealed an intriguing encounter with Joel Duncan-Williams, the son of renowned Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams.

Yvonne discloses the unconventional manner in which Joel approached her with a marriage proposal, which ultimately led to the end of their friendship.

The incident took place in 2009 while Yvonne was on set shooting the movie “The Princes.”

Per Yvonne’s account in the book, Joel, accompanied by an impressive entourage of security guards, visited the set, initially intending to see someone else. However, during his visit, Yvonne captured his attention, and she soon became more significant to him than the person he had initially come to meet.

Yvonne describes Joel’s imposing presence and the subsequent days and weeks of his persistent affection. He would buy her lunch and visit her on set, accompanied by his security detail. She couldn’t help but wonder about the level of threat he faced that necessitated such extensive protection. Despite being unsure of her feelings towards Joel, she soon discovered that he had already advanced plans for marriage. However, an unexpected turn of events abruptly terminated their friendship before it had a chance to develop further.

One evening, Joel arrived at Yvonne’s residence with his customary princely entourage, creating a spectacle that attracted the attention of the entire neighborhood. During the visit, he divulged his plans for their marriage. However, he stipulated that Yvonne had to undergo a prayer session with his father to rid her and her family of any perceived demonic influences. Yvonne found this request perplexing and even raised the question of whether Joel considered the need for his own spiritual cleansing. She highlighted that being the son of Archbishop Duncan-Williams did not automatically signify possession by the Holy Spirit or divine protection. Yvonne also questioned the assumption that her career as an actress made her a carrier of malevolent spirits.

Yvonne emphasizes that spirituality held a significant place in her household, with her mother’s deep sense of religious devotion influencing their daily lives. Moreover, she personally maintained a habit of praying before commencing any acting role. While Yvonne acknowledges her belief in God and the power of prayer, she found it amusing that someone seeking her hand in marriage believed she required spiritual purification even before her consent was secured. The idea of one-sided cleansing struck her as imbalanced and revealed a mindset prevalent among many men, particularly in Ghana and Nigeria.

Yvonne describes this mindset as an entitlement, perpetuating the notion of a male-dominated society where women are expected to be subservient and conform to the wishes and demands of men. It reflects an unwritten rule that prioritizes a man’s ambitions over a woman’s own priorities and emotions. In Joel Duncan-Williams’ case, it became evident that he only considered his perspective and interests, failing to recognize the importance of mutual understanding and respect. Yvonne further highlights that this entitlement mindset extends to the forceful assertion of control over women’s bodies, an issue she became more aware of during her time in the movie industry.

I HAD A DNA TEST (FORMER DEPUTY SPEAKER OF PARLIAMENT -ALA ADJETEY)

Actress Yvonne Nelson has disclosed in her memoir that her mom told her that her biological father was the late New Patriotic Party (NPP) member Peter Ala Adjetey.

As a result, she conducted a DNA test but the results came out negative.

“The process did not last long, but the time we spent awaiting the result seemed to have outlasted eternity. He said it would take up to ten days, but the ten days were like ten months. The notification finally came on November 29, 2021. It set my heart throbbing like a drum. It was sent via WhatsApp and email. I was then given a password to open each of the two pdf files, and I did so with trembling hands. The fear was palpable.”

“The first one I opened was captioned “DNA Profiling Test Report.” The test was described as a “half sibling test”.

“I didn’t have time to read the long narration and explanation that came with the result. I needed the conclusion or something to the effect that it was either positive or negative. That was provided in three different ways, in addition to the long narrative. The portion market “Result” said: “Not supportive of half-siblings.”

The conclusion said, “The likelihood obtained is not supportive of the relationship tested.”

I REJECTED AN OFFER FROM THE NPP TO CONTEST THE AYAWASO WEST WUOGON SEAT

Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson claims she rejected an offer from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to contest the Ayawaso West Wuogon parliamentary seat against her colleague actor John Dumelo who contested the seat on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2020 elections.

She detailed this in her new book, “I AM NOT YVONNE NELSON”.

The book that has brought many revelations about Yvonne’s personal life also detailed why the actress turned down an opportunity to venture into politics, just as many of her colleagues have done.

“Prior to the 2020 polls, an influential man in the Akufo-Addo circles came to see me and proposed to sponsor me to contest the Ayawaso West Wuogon parliamentary seat on the ticket of the NPP. The NPP had lost its MP for the area and one of the “wives” of the late MP won the byelection in 2019.”

“The byelection was characterized by violence and resulted in the formation of a commission of inquiry to investigate it. She was lacing her boots to contest the seat in 2020. When I drew the attention of the emissary to the fact that the party already had a candidate, he said the fact that he was contacting me meant that they had concluded their plans and would do everything within their power to pave the way for me to contest if only I was interested.”

“Apart from the fact that they probably saw a formidable political personality in me as a result of the #DumsorMustStop protest, the other reason the NPP’s gods wanted me to contest was not difficult to discern. My colleague actor and friend, John Dumelo, was contesting that constituency on the ticket of the opposition NDC and they feared he could unseat the NPP candidate with his celebrity status. Already, John Dumelo’s political affiliation had strained our friendship. We had had open exchanges on Twitter in the past and I wasn’t going to make things worse by openly contesting him. I wouldn’t betray our friendship to satisfy some people’s political calculations. If I accepted the offer, I was going to do that because of the convenience of political power.”

Yvonne Nelson’s memoir has already found success on Apple Books and Amazon, revealing that a vibrant literary landscape of Ghana exists.

Meanwhile. reacting to Yvonne Nelson’s claims about aborting a pregnancy in 2020, the award-winning Ghanaian musician, Michael Owusu Addo (Sarkodie) has denied claims that he forced actress Yvonne Nelson to have an abortion in 2010.

Stating his side of the story in a new song, ‘Try Me’, which has gone viral since it was released Tuesday, June 27, 2023, Sarkodie disclosed that even though he wasn’t prepared at the time, he wanted her to keep the baby but Yvonne refused on grounds of being in school.

With his emotions highly visible in the song, Sarkodie talked about how he was deeply in love with Yvonne Nelson but turned out he was probably just one of the many guys in her life at the time in the 3:16 minutes song.

He mentioned that he didn’t want to disclose that side of his life till death but has been forced to come out since Yvonne Nelson told a story that favors her.

“I’m not going to lie, we had a thing. At first, I thought we had a think until I had the hint that there were many guys. I tried to stay away but then you came that you were pregnant. But then I wasn’t ready but I told you to keep it”.

“You told me you were schooling so you needed to complete it but till today, I don’t believe it. I told you to let my doctor take care of you and you sent a text later that your friend has recommended one of the best doctors…”

“So don’t you make it seem like I was the one pushing you for abortion? Baby girl makes you no try me”, he raps on ‘Try Me’.

Yvonne Nelson retaliated Sarkodie in a tweet this morning said “Insults won’t work Michael, Respect womanhood. I’m happy the world gets to see how you are playing this and the real you. Young women get to learn from this. You would get applause for a rap. still doesn’t change the truth,” she posted.

Another post says, “In my book, I narrated how you got me pregnant. How you couldn’t wait for me to get rid of it. How do you drive me to have an abortion? As usual, you want to use rap to rubbish a pain a young woman felt. We both have daughters, let us see what life throws at them. #triedyou”.
