Man found dead in gutter at Opeikuma Junction

A man believed to be in his 70s has been found dead in a gutter at Kasoa-Opeikuma Junction in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region.

According to reports, the deceased, who was not a resident in the area, was earlier seen roaming the street on Sunday, April 28.

Some residents who spoke to him said the deceased claimed to be looking for someone in the area.

Due to his age, he caused huge traffic on Sunday night while trying to cross the Opeikuma road.

A good Samaritan reportedly helped him to cross the road.

But to the shock of many residents, they woke up on Monday, April 29, and found the man sitting in a gutter, half-naked and dead.

The police were immediately informed and arrived at the scene to convey the body to the Winneba Special and Trauma Hospital Mortuary for autopsy and preservation.

Meanwhile, Police and the residents are searching for the family of the deceased.

In a similar occurrence on, April 12, 2024, a 16-year-old boy named Nicholas Nyame, who went missing in Assin Fosu, was found dead in an abandoned quarry pit.

The Junior High School (JHS) Form 2 pupil drowned in the pit filled with water at Assin Dompim, a suburb of Assin Fosu in the Central region.

Again, on Monday, April 8, 2024, two Junior High School (JHS) final-year students of Abisco M/A Basic School died after falling into an abandoned illegal mining (galamsey) pit at Dunkwa-Abasewa in the Upper Denkyira East District of the Central Region.

Information indicated that the deceased, Dominic Abu, 15, and Enoch Ogo, 16, were returning from school when the sad incident happened.

It was reported that one fell into the pit first, and in an attempt to rescue him, the other got into the pit covered with water and drowned.

The bodies were subsequently retrieved.

On April 10, 2024, a four-year-old boy drowned in a well at Kwahu Tafo in the Eastern Region.

The incident happened in the afternoon of Wednesday, April 10, 2024. According to local sources, the young boy went to the well to fetch water with a bucket.

However, the volume of the water made the bucket heavy, and the weight pulled him into the well.

On March 18, 2024, a 25-year-old man, identified as Godfred Bobi, died in a galamsey pit at Denkyira Brofoyedu in the Central Region.

It was alleged he and several other illegal miners entered the Galamsey site to mine for gold. How Bobi fell into the pit, full of water. The rest remains a mystery.

Again on March 3, 2024, it was reported that three illegal miners died in a galamsey pit collapse at Kobriso Romanmu community in the Denkyembuor district of the Eastern Region.

The victims were Kwasi Darkwa, 24, Kofi Asante,  30, and Yaw Ibrahim, 39.

Then on February 23, 2024, a 22-year-old man was reported dead after he fell into a deep galamsey pit, according to a police report.

Akpi Isaac was extremely weak after he was rescued from the pit and when rushed to the hospital, a doctor pronounced him dead.

Also, on February 14, 2024, the decomposing body of a young man was found in an abandoned galamsey pit near River Birim at Akyem Wenchi in the Eastern region.

The deceased, also known as Akoshi, was from Accra but lived in Akyem Asene in the Asene Manso Akroso district.
