Menzgold customers petition AG to investigate alleged sale of NAM 1’s confiscated properties

The Coalition of Aggrieved Customers of Menzgold has submitted a formal petition to the Attorney General’s office, urging an investigation into the reported sale of properties formerly owned by Nana Appiah Mensah, popularly known as NAM 1, the founder of the defunct gold dealership firm.

In their petition, the customers expressed concern over allegations surrounding the disposition of assets confiscated from the company despite a court order.

They further alleged that some of the assets that have been sold off include Zylofone Media/Zylofone Arts Complex, Brew Marketing Consult at Kasoa Ofaakor and Richester Hotel, located at East Legon in Accra.

“As customers, we are appalled by this act of impunity on the part of NAM 1 and Menzgold and alarmed by the alacrity with which these properties are being sold”, the petitioners wrote.

“We therefore call on your esteem office to respectfully investigate this matter and let justice prevail”, they pleaded.

NAM1 and two of his companies – Menzgold Ghana Limited and Brew Marketing Consult Ghana Limited are facing 39 counts of defrauding by false pretence, inducing members of the public to invest and money laundering.

In 2023, the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice filed fresh charges against him after withdrawing all previous ones.

The Director of Prosecution, Yvonne Atakora, explained that amendments to some figures in the case necessitated the filing of new charges, emphasising that this decision was made in the interest of justice.
